The Sri Lanka Unites movement represents the choice of Sri Lanka’s youth, from all ethnic and religious groups – to rise up and provide a new voice.

Why we engage

70% of Sri Lankan youth do not have a friend outside of their ethnicity/religion.

Out of the 10,000 government schools under the Ministry of Education only 112 schools teach in both Sinhala and Tamil mediums.

500,000 Sri Lankan’s have died in various cycles of violence in 71 years of independence.

3 million Sri Lankans have left Sri Lanka.

Over 70,000 people are still missing due to war and violence.

A large majority of Sri Lankans are seeking to leave Sri Lanka.

Yet over 48% of the population is under the age of 30. We believe they can lead the transformation of Sri Lanka needs, if we can invest in the next generation, we can transform the current bleak realities of our country.

Our Goals

Become the largest youth movement of Sri Lanka with 5 million pledge members.

To be active and vibrant in each district.

Establish a Reconciliation Center in each district.

Create sustainable friendship and relationships across ethnic and religious lines through language learning, integration, and socially good projects.

Respond immediately to natural disaster, injustices, radicalization, violent extremism and hate speech in any district of the country.

Create higher educational and vocational opportunities for rural Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka to be celebrated as a model for youth led Reconciliation by 2030.

Shane is a graduate from the Open University of Sri Lanka with a BA in Humanities and Social Sciences and is in the process of obtaining his Masters in Youth and Community Development. He has been in the banking industry for a short period and moved to serve the children as a teacher in his own alma mater where he joined the early Sri Lanka Unites Movement

Grace Wickremasinghe

More about Grace

Grace is a Legal Researcher at the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka, with an LLB (Hons) and postgraduate qualifications in Women and Gender Studies, Forensic Science, and Medicine. She is also an Associate Fellow of the Royal Commonwealth Society, combining advocacy, research, and public speaking to drive social change and empower communities.

Jerusha is an experienced legal practitioner with expertise in civil law and a focus on SGBV, she holds an LLM in Commercial Law from the University of West London. Skilled in dispute resolution, lecturing, legal assistance, student counseling, and litigation, she is committed to advancing justice and empowering others through her work.

Neluni, a Chevening Scholar, holds an MSc in Conflict, Statebuilding, and Development from the University of Birmingham and a BSc in Medical Bio-Science from Monash University Malaysia. A former Co-National Director of Sri Lanka Unites, she combines expertise in health, development, and conflict studies to drive impactful initiatives.
